Christianity and Halloween, Will God be Pleased?

What's Behind Halloween?

En español: AQUÍ

What I write in the following paragraphs, is what I have learned about the origin of Halloween. After reading this and doing further investigations, you can decide whether to continue celebrating the "tradition" or staying firm in your belief.

Apparently for many Christians, the fact that a country (USA), whose culture is predominant in our hemisphere and celebrates Halloween, is good enough to adopt it as their own, without questioning its origins. One of Satan tricks is just that, to disguise the most harmful things as though they are seemingly harmless. There are many things that we do that affect us not only physically, but also spiritually. Many times we give in to what has been christened with the name of "tradition", "entertainment" or "celebrations", but what's behind some celebrations? What's in a celebration called Halloween?

What is and Where did the tradition of the celebration called Halloween?

The original name of Halloween has changed from "All hallows eve" (Holy Eve) to  Halloween (name of terror).  This holiday is celebrated mainly in the United States, in the night October 31. Its of Samahain Celtic origin. The Christian holiday celebrated on that day is, the day of all saints.

The earliest Halloween celebrations were never carried out by the church, but by an order of priests called Druids. The celebration of Halloween was made in honor of Samhain, the "lord of death" and his demons, whose festival fell on November 1. In fact, the etymological definition of the word Halloween is "completely holy night." According to Webster, the word Halloween comes from the words "All Even Hallo." This "completely holy night" 31 October-1 November morning - was also, according to the Roman calendar, a holy day to remember the souls of the dead. Hence the confusion by mixing the two celebrations. For their part, Catholics remembered the dead saints, as do the Episcopal Church and the Greek Orthodox Church, but the Druid priests of a pagan order, took the same night to celebrate - not the memory of the dead, but to provide the "lord of death, Samhain.

On this day, the god of the Celts called the spirits of the wicked who had died in that year. At the same time, other spirits roamed the fields attacking people. On the night of October 31 was a night of horror for the Celtic people because they could be attacked by ghosts, evil spirits and demons and the priests druids. It was a time to human sacrifice. Men, women, elderly and children were forcibly taken and thrown into large wooden and straw crates. The priests would set them on fire, and with these sacrifices, the priests had a Thanksgiving meal, along with the ashes.

Note: During the time of Constantine, these two holidays, the religious and the pagan were mixed in an attempt  to "Christianize" the pagan day. But what a mistake! The Church trying to Christianize the heathen, failed, and instead the opposite happened.

Meaning Halloween

The Actual Meaning Halloween is linked with witchcraft and Satanism. Halloween is not an innocent party, its symbols are symbols of death and horror. The surrounding environment is of awe and fear. During the celebration of Halloween, children dress as witches, goblins, ghosts, little devils and fortune tellers. All these are representatives of the kingdom of darkness. The games played on Halloween promote fear in children and are also based on dark house full of cobwebs, blood, skeletons, black cats, bats, and dark rooms. Also the Satanic cults hold great sacrifices on this day making Halloween a very important day for them.

Where does "trick or treat" from?

The term known as "trick or treat" (trick or sweet) comes from sources that are not very clear. One of the oldest stories told by professionals is that there are people who went from village to village demanding to be given a  square-shaped bread with raisins that is called "cake for the soul" or "dead cakes ". Children are taught to go door to door saying "trick or treat" which means "or you give me something (usually sweets) or we'll play a joke on you." Should Christians be threatening someone for sweets? Of course not!

Why do we want to imitate things and beings that do not inherit the kingdom of God? Worse yet, why do we allow our children to dress as them and participate in these activities?

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. -Galatians 5:19-21

Halloween Colors

The colors of this holiday are: the orange represents the fall, and black represents death.

Is the Lord happy with the celebration of Halloween?

No, the Lord is NOT happy with the celebration of Halloween.

"when you enter the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, do not learn to do after the abominations of those nations."- Deuteronomy 19-8

Should Christians celebrate Halloween?

The issue is extremely curious. Most Christians deeply believe the biblical reality that Jesus came to bring light to the world, and to eternal life, yet every year, many believers are about to find Satan and his kingdom, celebrating and in some way participating in Halloween festivity. As a Christian parent, we are responsible not to allow our children to be exposed to such celebration, who's primary intentions is to honor the dead and celebrate Satanic rites. When Satan and his celebrations seem normal to children, what hope do we have that in the future these children can properly discern between good and evil. When the Apocalypse and the New Age begin, will their training be under the leadership of the False Prophet?

I agree with Pastor Ureña, that no Christian should participate in the celebration of these activities. A great idea that learned about his church, is that since the children see that the whole school is getting ready for the celebration of Halloween, and yet their parents and members of the church are not excited by what they see as a great celebration, they organize a number of other alternative services and activities, which have been called "Divine Carnival" for children. This church tries to give their children an alternative celebration to avoid having any youngster with motivation to go to a party  in a celebration that is dedicated to the worship of evil forces. I believe this is a good idea for kids.

I am not someone who has never celebrated Halloween, I am an ordinary person who was fascinated by buying halloween decorations, candy, make up costumes for girls etc. Today I'll share some of my photos of my daughters and how I decorated my home. I thought that if you are not satanic nor  practice witchcraft, there was nothing wrong with celebrating this "candy day" for children, but how wrong was I. Thank God I now understand why we should not celebrate Halloween and to questioned many other "traditions". Halloween has never been a Christian holiday and has no place in the life of a believer who is born again in Christ Jesus. In fact, it is an abomination to the Lord, and we must take a firm stand against the party and everything it entails. We see that its story is purely pagan, and so is its modern expression.

I hope this message will reach many and that many don't spoil their faith by ignoring the history and reason for this pagan tradition. The Word of God tells us:

"For the tradition that is transmitted between you nullify the word of God. And they do many similar things." - Mark 7:13

  1. Hi Mari,

Muchas iglesias ofrecen alternativas similares a celebrar Halloween.

  2. Mari, Our (Catholic) church celebrates a Service of Light where we call on the angels and archangels and the Lord of Light, Christ Jesus to protect us and the community throughout the darkness.

Human beings live in connection with the world - the images of sun, light and dark have clear connections with our faith. The early Celtic people lived hard, hard lives as all cultures did, but they believed in a God that would see them through the cold and hunger of winter. Their services of Light echoed this faith.
In England the services were condemned during the Reformation - Catholics were accused of witchcraft, our rites - magic. Having to go into hiding we became the basis of superstition.
Trick or treat came out of a tradition of children being fed by the community for the winter.
It has got out of hand due to commericalism, horror stories and vampire novels - but the ability to laugh at what is meant to scare us is empowering.
There are those who find power in the dark but they will find that anyway. I would rather encourage people to laugh at the darkness and call upon the Lord of Light to be by my side.

  3. MTJ- Me ha encantado este versículo. 1 Corintios 13: 11. Todos de pequeño hacíamos y aprendimos cosas que no son de el agrado de Dios, pero al venir a Cristo Jesús nacemos de nuevo y echamos todo eso a un lado.

Que pases un feliz y bendecido fin de semana.

  4. Word in Hand - Thanks for sharing this part of the Celtic people mstory. I believe that more than to laugh at the darkness we must also stay away from it as much as we can, and become part of the light of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

  5. Mari, I'm a little embarrassed that I have never had the curiosity or have ever questioned what Halloween really meant until now. I am also known for making our family costumes and parading every year for the past 30 years- I have a very good soul and believe in doing good, I too felt that it was fine to participate in the fun as long as we had no ill intention. But now after reading this article, I'm contemplating in abandoning the thought of ever participating in any future Halloween. For me, giving up Halloween is the easy part- breaking the news to my 17 year old son who still enjoys getting dressed up.....well that's a different story!! Guess who'll be reading this article first thing tomorrow morning? Thanx for the info!<3 Belkis

  6. But Jesus didn't stay away from the darkness - he went to the unclean and those tormented by demons. He told his disciples to cast out evil. If we are to be true disciples then, we God's grace, we have to be able to stand against it without fear. I meet a lot of people looking to escape from darkness - how do I help them if I stay away, how do I help them if i don't know what darkness is, how do I help them if I am afraid?

  7. Belkis, I felt the same way, but when you try to live guided by the light of our Lord we most not walk on darkness nor participate in what is not part of a christian faith. We should be light were ever we go,and constantly ask our Lord for guidance and wisdom to discern between what helps us in faith or apart us.

  9. Very good information. I, too have researched the origins of this and many other holidays and while they seem fun, most have extremely pagan backgrounds. I would never want to particpate any anything that dishonors God. Thank you for sharing this. :)
